Who was Lucille Meharg?

Lucille Sala Meharg was one of the most treasured members of the Upland community for over 40 years. Mrs. Meharg was a revered educator, who taught French and Latin to scores of Upland students, and believed that her students should strive for excellence in everything they did. She is widely regarded as one of the toughest teachers in Upland history, but everyone knew that she expected excellence, and she was quick to reward students who rose to the challenge. It was an accomplishment to succeed with her and she inspired love in so many of us.

Mrs. Meharg served as the Upper School Latin teacher and 6th grade advisor right up until her death in January 2010. The Scholarship Program is named in her honor and we are confident that she will approve of the outstanding middle school scholars who will receive this award. Our hope is that her memory will continue to inspire our student body in the perpetual pursuit of academic excellence.

No! Assuming that a Scholarship recipient continues to thrive at Upland by fulfilling academic and extra-curricular expectations, the scholarship continues through graduation at the affiliated rates for each division.
