What is the Annual Fund?

List of 9 frequently asked questions.

  • Q. If I already pay tuition, why is important for me to make an Annual Fund donation too?

Your gift supports the people and the programs that make Upland so special. This means the dedicated teachers, small classes, and exceptional offerings in everything from academics to the arts and athletics. Your gift makes it all possible.
  • Q. How much should I give to the Annual Fund?

We are an economically diverse community and our families give at a number of levels. Below are the Upland Annual Fund Gift Clubs. Families are encouraged to make Upland a philanthropic priority by making a gift that is significant to you.

    Gift Clubs:
    • The Beekeepers Club: $100 - $249
    • The Girl with Flute Club: $250 - $499
    • The Black and Gold Club: $500 - $999
    • The Farmhouse Circle: $1,000 - $2,499
    • The Headmaster's Circle: $2,500 - $4,999
    • The "U" Fellowship: $5,000 - $9,999
    • The Founders' Alliance: $10,000 plus
  • Q. Why is participation so important?

High participation is a vote of confidence, a sign that parents and friends support the school’s mission. We strive for 100% participation. The high percentage is immeasurable when we are seeking gifts from outside sources, such as grants, as most foundations consider participation before agreeing to donate funds to a school.
  • Q. Why not just raise tuition?

Like most independent schools, Upland uses a financial model that relies upon tuition revenues plus charitable contributions to the Annual Fund to fund its annual operating expenses. This model helps moderate tuition levels and allows families to help fund school operations on a tax-advantaged basis. Your annual support is a vital component of that financial equation.
  • Q. If I can only make a small gift, does it make an impact?

Yes! Similar to other private schools of its type, Upland has fewer supporters than a university or large charity. Because the number who can give is small and the need is large, every gift counts. Regardless of the size of the gift, it is an expression of your support and belief in our School. Participation matters!
  • Q. When should I give?

We encourage individuals and families to pledge and make gifts early in the school year (between September and December). Early donations translate into lower administrative and communications costs per dollar raised. You may, however, give at any time during the Annual Fund period, which runs from July 1st through June 30th each year.
  • Q. How can I make a donation to the Annual Fund?

You can make a donation by sending in a check or by using our secure online giving. To give, you may mail a check to:

    Development Office
    Upland Country Day School
    420 West Street Road
    Kennett Square, PA 19348

Make checks payable to Upland Country Day School. If you wish to give using VISA or MasterCard, support us through online giving
  • Q. May I spread my payments out over time?

Yes, you may spread your payments out over time. While your pledge amount to the Annual Fund must all be paid by June 30th, you may elect to pay monthly, quarterly, etc. The Development Office will be happy to help, once you have determined the right plan for you.
  • Q. Is my donation tax deductible?

Absolutely, Upland Country Day School is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization. Your tax-deductible, unrestricted gift ensures that every student benefits from an exceptional educational experience beyond what tuition alone would cover.
