Grade 1 Hits a Home Run in Annual Giving Campaign!

Congratulations to all of our Grade 1 families who stepped up to the Annual Giving plate and hit one out of the park for Upland!  Kindergarten is rounding third base and heading for home with 93% participation and Pre-K isn't far behind with 86%!

Here's how all the classes are doing so far:

PreK -              86%

Grade 1          100%
Grade 2            78%
Grade 3            78%

In bridging the gap between tuition and the cost of an Upland education, your Annual Fund gift enhances the learning environment for our students. Thank you to EVERYONE who has given so far.  Because of you, we are 82% of the way toward our goal of $250,000.

If you are waiting to help us out in the home stretch, now is the time!
The 2007-08 campaign ends on June 30, but why wait?  You can make your gift online right now at
https://www322.safesecureweb.com/uplandcdsorg/ongiving.php It's quick, it's easy, it's secure and, best of all, it strengthens the investment you are already making in your child's education.  So be a part
of a winning team by stepping up to the plate for Upland!

What's new on the Website??

Have you been wondering what happened to the UPA Newsletter? It is alive and well and now in full color in PDF format on the Upland website!  All issues for the year are archived, so you can check out any you might have missed.  One great new feature editor Charmaine Wishart has just begun are
faculty profiles!  Find out all kinds of fun, interesting things about the Upland faculty beginning with Lucille Meharg and Court Dunn! http://www.uplandcds.org/upanewsarchive.php

Don't forget to check out the latest news in the News! section, too!  It will show you all the latest additions to the site - like Dave Suter's reflections on an Upland education as his first year draws to a close.  We are also in the process of uploading photo galleries from the Auction, Pocahontas and Macbeth, an article on Earth Day, with conservation tips from the science and technology faculty, and an article about all the things that are happening around Upland these past couple of weeks. Check
in over the next couple of days and click on the Bee - Site Updates, which will take you to all the latest entries, with more things being added all the time.

Thank You and a Reminder from the Admissions Office

As we near the end of the 2007-08 school year and we turn our attention to 2008-09, I want to thank the 94% of you who have re-enrolled.  We are thankful for all of the support for our mission, program, and faculty that you show by entrusting your children to us each year.  I would also like to take this opportunity to remind you that enrollment agreements take full effect on June 1st. This means that accepted or re-enrolling families wishing to withdraw before June 1st are only liable for their deposit;
June 1st and beyond, families are responsible for the entire tuition obligation. The Tuition Refund Plan is available at Upland, but has limitations such as not starting until after the 10th day of classes in a
year. For more details, contact the Business Office.

3rd Grade Notecards Protect Elephants
Once again, the Third Grade is selling an assortment package of their notecards.  This year, the children drew pictures of African animals and have put together assorted sets of 4 notecards for $5.00.  Our fundraising profit will be sent to Big Gift 2008, a partnership between Earth's Birthday Project and The African Wildlife Foundation.  Each $50 we raise will purchase and protect 1 acre of endangered elephant habitat in Kenya and Tanzania.  If you are interestedin purchasing the cards, stop by the
3rd grade classroom anytime, but hurry!  The cards are popular and do sell out quickly!  Thank you.

Poppers' Successful Season Ends this Month
May proceeds go to "Pennies for Peace."

With the end of May will come the end of the 4th Grade's highly successful third "Poppin' for Charity" season.  The class has  raised over $1,000 this year.  Last month's charity, Power Up Gambia received $387.00 from the Poppers.

Look for Poppy and the gang at all our major May events and enjoy their great (solar powered) popcorn, while helping them make a difference all over the world!

The next Upland Announcements will be sent on Thursday, May 15.  Deadline for Announcements will be Monday, May 12.

As always we invite your comments and suggestions.

Sincerely,
